Why should I buy veterinary diets from Chewy?
We offer competitive prices and free shipping on orders over $49. Plus, you'll save more if you sign up for automatic refills with Autoship at Checkout. Chewy experts are available 24/7 to answer any questions you have.
How do I order veterinary diets?
- Search for the diet your veterinarian recommends and add it to your cart. You can purchase your veterinary diets along with any other items you need.
- At Checkout, you'll be asked for your pet's name and veterinary clinic information so we can confirm that the item is authorized by your veterinarian.
- Place your order and we'll take care of contacting your veterinarian. If you have a copy of your authorization, you can expedite the process by uploading a scan or photo of it to the Prescriptions section in your account or your order confirmation. You can also email it to vetdiet@chewy.com.
If your clinic needs more information from you or recommends a different diet, we'll let you know immediately.
I have a copy of the authorization from my veterinarian. Can I send it to you?
Yes. If you have a paper copy of your veterinarian's authorization, you can upload a scan or photo to the Prescriptions section in your account or your order confirmation. You can also email it to vetdiet@chewy.com.
Can I use a veterinarian's authorization if it was written by a veterinarian out of state? Yes. We accept valid authorizations from anywhere in the United States, Canada, and U.S. territories such as Puerto Rico.
Why do I need a veterinarian's authorization?
Veterinary diets are formulated with the precise ingredients and nutrients needed to address specific medical issues. Because these diets are formulated for medical issues, veterinary authorization is needed to advise you on the best way to give them to your pet and to monitor your pet's health while they are on the diet.
Can someone else (such as a caretaker or family member) place an order for my pet?
Yes, but we'll need them to contact us and provide the full name of the pet's owner after the order is placed. This is so the veterinary clinic can locate your pet's records when we contact them. Email us at vetdiet@chewy.com or call us 24/7 at 1-800-672-4399.
Do authorizations expire?
Yes. Your veterinarian will tell us when your authorization expires and how many refills you have before they'd like you to check back in with them.
Can I set up automatic refills? Yes. Sign up for Autoship at Checkout and select how often you need refills. We'll automatically ship your veterinary diets for as long as your authorization allows. If you run out of refills or your authorization expires, we'll automatically contact your veterinarian for a new authorization.
What if I have more questions? How can I reach the veterinary diets team at Chewy?
Email us at vetdiet@chewy.com, start a chat on Chewy.com, or call us anytime at 1-800-672-4399. We're here for you 24/7.

Allergy relief
By Natali on Nov 26, 2021
My vet recommended to switch my dog to the special diet to help with skin allergy. I choose Purina since we've been using Purina products before and I trust the company. My dog is on medications but looks like the diet provide the support he needs to prevent the relapse. So far so good

Great purchase
By EllasFather on Nov 27, 2021
My VET asked me to get this for my puppy Ella, and I was quite skeptical for my picky pet. But boom, she loves it and has stopped itching incessantly. Im quite satisfied and will probably schedule this order every 3 months.

Not Worth It
By Pineview on Sep 29, 2021
Not only does this food keep my pup Unfulfilled, it does not touch his dermatitis and hot spots whatsoever. I'm paying $100 per month for this food, plus Apoquel allergy medicine for him. And if you know about Apoquel, it's wonderful but also expensive. This food does not live up to its own hype. Don't waste your time.

Skin is much better

This was ordered by my vet for my dogs allergies. So far he likes it and his skin is improving. Just wish it was a little cheaper in price.

Great for allergy dogs
By Grace on Jan 30, 2021
I started feeding my Doberman this food because he has allergies that cause him to itch a lot. When he was a stray, he lost all the hair on his belly and had skin infections from itching. When we first got him his poop was very loose as well. Since using this food his poop is completely normal, he is itching less and the hair on his belly is growing back!

pricey but worth a try
By tanker1 on Jan 23, 2021
my dog has severe allergies and this is worth a try, it may take a few months for it to affect the dog depending on what allergies they are having. in the past I have had the best luck with purina products, I realize that's just for me.

By Maia on Feb 26, 2021
This food has made my itchy, scratchy schnauzer very happy. Only drawback is the other dog now refuses to eat the regular food. It must smell delicious!

Best food for dermatitis! Give it TIME to work!
By Lily on Jun 20, 2019
We have tried so many different foods I cannot even count and were warned to stay away from those "boutique" foods (which I will reiterate). My dog was diagnosed with atopic dermatitis. We have tried testing, shots, different foods, prescription medication and pills etc and were unable to find the trigger. We stopped everything and moved her to this food where she has done substantially better. itching has gone from a 8 or 9 to a 1. No more loose stools, eye boogies or licking or chewing paws, or chewing the hair off of herself. Her coat is healthy, soft, and shiny and she is happy as can be. We combine this with Purina fortiflora probiotic.
